Are Virtual Craft Classes Worth It?
Should You Try Virtual Craft Classes?
It’s safe to say we’ve all gotten pretty creative with entertainment and leisure activities since some of the things we enjoyed before the pandemic are now off-limits (or at least, heavily modified). On that note, I’ve noticed a lot of “virtual experiences” recently. Virtual Bible study, virtual Summer camp for the kids, and, of course, virtual craft classes.
I recently participated in a virtual craft class with my Mom and sister and I wanted to chat with you guys about my experience. If you’re like I was before taking the class, you’re probably wondering if virtual craft classes are worth it. Spoiler alert: SO WORTH IT. Let’s get into it!
So, full disclosure: I’m not a crafter in any sense of the word. Usually, I prefer my stuff handmade by someone else’s hands and purchased from Etsy, at a vendor fair, etc. When my sister suggested this class for my Mom’s birthday, I decided to give it a shot. I figured it would be easy enough to dip my toe in, and, if not, at least I would get a good glass of wine out of the deal! My Mom, by the way, is a HUGE crafter, so we knew she was down!
We ended up going with Some Good Customs, a Black-owned craft shop out of Atlanta, GA specializing in DIY workshops and custom and ready-to-ship home decor and gifts. We decided on the Beginner-level Epoxy Resin Confetti Tray workshop.

So, Are Virtual Craft Classes Worth It?
Before I get into the class itself, I want to say that Leah is super sweet and incredibly easy to work with. We got our workshop scheduled and ordered our supplies through her; she ships everything you need for your class straight to your door, no muss no fuss. When we needed to postpone because one of my pieces came late, (we didn’t account for USPS which, as you know, is going a bit nuts these days) she was super cool and accommodating.
So. The crafting! Honestly, working with epoxy and resin was a lot easier than I expected it to be! Leah walked us through the process step by step and she was careful to note any potential pitfalls or mistakes we needed to look out for.
We met through the Zoom app, which I’m sure everyone is familiar with by now. If you’re not, no worries! There’s a free version and it’s super easy to use. I’m not that big of a people person, and we’ve already mentioned that I don’t craft, so I was unsure of what to expect. Turns out we had a blast sipping wine, chatting, and creating our masterpieces. Leah’s a jewel and her sweet, down-to-earth personality made for a fun and seamless experience.
We joked about turning “the newbie” into a crafter by the end of the workshop, and I have to confess, I’ve seen the light ya’ll! I wouldn’t say I’ve reached “Crazy Crafter” status, but working with my tray was fun and incredibly relaxing. I already ordered a few more trays to work with and I’m even (gasp!) considering staining or painting the rest of my original tray. Luckily, there were plenty of supplies left over from our workshop, so I’m all set for next time!

What a cool craft! I’ve also done my version of getting more crafty by chalk painting cabinets and redecorating during this quarantine!
