Black Owned Business of the Month: The Lip Bar!

Share The Love

So, this month’s Black Owned Business of the Month is The Lip Bar! Melissa Butler founded The Lip Bar back in 2012 while she was working a traditional 9 to 5 on Wall Street. She saw a need for easy-to-use, quality makeup that was free of chemicals, so I’m sure you can guess what happened next. One of America’s top Black owned makeup companies was born!

The Lip Bar Is Cruelty-Free & Vegan

Today, The Lip Bar provides cruelty-free, Vegan products like their award winning Fresh Glow 2 in 1 Bronzer + Blush Duo and their signature Fast Face Kits to help “streamline your beauty routine” and remove the intimidation factor when it comes to selecting and applying makeup. Have you ever gone into a Sephora or an Ulta and just been completely overwhelmed? Me too! But, I still want to put my best face forward when I’m going somewhere special or when I’m making cute videos for you guys, so I 100% rock with The Lip Bar’s no muss-no fuss products.

Is It Time To Upgrade Your Makeup Routine?

When I recently decided to upgrade my lippie collection, I knew I wanted to purchase from a Black owned makeup company. So, I ordered a lip gloss in Class Act and a lipstick in Cougar from The Lip Bar and I instantly fell in love. The gloss is velvety smooth (NOT sticky) and it actually smells really nice, kind of like cake. The lipstick is one of their neutral shades and it glides on incredibly easily; plus, it’s super long-lasting. Actually, if you’re a channel subscriber, you’ve probably seen Cougar in action already since I tend to wear it a lot!

Speaking of lipsticks. Remember when I said The Lip Bar takes the intimidation out of the makeup wearing experience? They make it insanely easy to select the shade that works best for you with their Lipstick Quiz. Answer a few questions about your preferences and your complexion and The Lip Bar suggests a few shades for you to try right there on the site.

The Lip Bar’s Signature Fast Face Kits

The Fast Face Kits are another part of making beauty products easy to use and accessible for everyone no matter what our skill level is. The kits include a foundation, 4 in 1 Face Palette, Mascara, Eyeliner, 2 in 1 Brow Gel + Pencil, and a Liquid Lipstick all based on your specific complexion.

If you’re unsure of which foundation shade to go with, definitely try out the The Lip Bar Shade Finder. So easy! You can shop by complexion (choose from Ivory, Honey, Caramel, Cinnamon, Mocha, and Ebony shade groups) or plug in the shade and brand of foundation you use now and The Lip Bar will tell you which of their shades to try. I just ordered a Fast Face Kit in 4:02 (demo & review coming soon; sub my channel for notifications!) and I’m super excited to give it a try.

What If My Brand Isn’t Listed?

If your current brand isn’t listed or the formula you use is discontinued (like mine was) you can also try Findation.com. Put in your brand and shade, select The Lip Bar, and it’ll give you a suggestion on what to try. Both Findation and The Shade Finder are incredibly helpful, especially now, in the age of COVID-19, when the thought of swatching public testers makes me shudder a little.

Treat Yourself & Do Good

And lastly, it’s the civic responsibility for me(; The Lip Bar recently debuted Bawse Voter, a gorgeous, rich, blue-based Red shade that looks amazing no matter what your skin tone is and was seen on none other than former First Lady Michelle Obama. 40% of the retail price of this shade goes to support the When We All Vote program in their efforts to “increase voter registration, get voters to the polls, and change the culture around voting.” I love a brand who’s not afraid to stand up for the right thing and encourage its fans to do the same thing.

Update!

I wanted to come back and let you guys know that I recently ordered the Lip Bar’s Fast Face Kit! First, I have to shout out The Lip Bar’s customer service, which is impeccable. I had a little snafu with my PayPal and they were so cool about emailing with me to make sure the issue was resolved quickly. And when it shipped, I got the shipping notification AND nice email letting me know everything was taken care of and thanking me for my order. So classy!

Now, about the Fast Face Kit. In case you’re wondering these are FULL SIZE products, not sample sizes. So, definitely worth the $99 price tag. The foundation is creamy and goes on smooth, plus the coverage is buildable, so you can go light or full face depending on your mood. It contains hyaluronic acid and sea moss extract so besides being lightweight, the foundation is also incredibly moisturizing. And the other products, the face palette, the brow pencil, eyeline, etc. were all super easy to use and amazing quality. I was especially excited to find my kit came with Bawse Lady, one of their bestsellers and my new fave shade of red! Full video review coming very soon, so follow my YouTube channel for updates!
