Best Black Owned Ice Cream Shops In The South
Traveling this Summer? If you’re visiting any of these popular Southern cities for a family vacay, you’ll want to keep these Black owned ice cream shops in mind!
By the way, did you know July 19th is National Ice Cream Day? I didn’t either! Apparently, August 19th is also National Soft-Serve Ice Cream Day, which is slightly confusing, but whatever. No matter what time of the year you’re reading this, ice cream is always a good idea (in my humble opinion) so let’s jump right in!
Black Owned Ice Cream Shops Around The Country
The Freezing Cow in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma specializes in 100% lactose free, keto-friendly hand-rolled ice cream.
Morelli’s Gourmet Ice Cream in Atlanta, Georgia carries ice cream, ice cream cakes, and pies in inventive flavors like Peanut Butter Caramel Crunch, Blueberry Rose Water, and Rosemary Olive Oil. Check back often, flavors are updated daily!

Three Scoops Premium Ice Cream in Huntsville, AL serves up a full menu of delicious ice cream, smoothies, shakes, coffee and other desserts. They also host birthday parties and private events!
Jay’s Italian Ice in Raleigh, NC doesn’t technically serve ice-cream, but their italian ice treats are just as refreshing as ice-cream on a hot, Summer day. In addition to serving up yummy Italian ice creations, Jay’s Italian Ice also supports local schools and charities in an effort to give back to the community where they reside. Love that!
Whipped Creamery in Augusta, GA is actually located inside the food court at the August Mall. Look for hand-dipped and soft-serve ice cream in twelve flavors with a rotation of fun seasonal options. Also, be sure to try their signature Belgian Waffles!
Staying Home This Season?
Staying close to home? No worries! Try searching for “Black owned ice cream shops near me” and see what pops up! You can also try your hand at making your own ice cream. Here are some good recipes to check out.
Unicorn Ice Cream from Divas Can Cook (perfect for the kiddos!)
Vegan Mango Ice Cream from Jessica In The Kitchen (made with just three ingredients!)
Sweet Potato Ice Cream from Black Girls Who Brunch (okay, this one honestly sounds amazing. I never thought to combine sweet potato flavor with ice cream, but I might have to give this one it a try!)
Strawberry Banana Sorbet from Cheneé Today (no ice-cream maker required equals no stress; I’m here for it!)
