Are Virtual Craft Classes Worth It?
Should You Try Virtual Craft Classes?
It’s safe to say we’ve all gotten pretty creative with entertainment and leisure activities since some of the things we enjoyed before the pandemic are now off-limits (or at least, heavily modified). On that note, I’ve noticed a lot of “virtual experiences” recently. Virtual Bible study, virtual Summer camp for the kids, and, of course, virtual craft classes.
I recently participated in a virtual craft class with my Mom and sister and I wanted to chat with you guys about my experience. If you’re like I was before taking the class, you’re probably wondering if virtual craft classes are worth it. Spoiler alert: SO WORTH IT. Let’s get into it!
So, full disclosure: I’m not a crafter in any sense of the word. Usually, I prefer my stuff handmade by someone else’s hands and purchased from Etsy, at a vendor fair, etc. When my sister suggested this class for my Mom’s birthday, I decided to give it a shot. I figured it would be easy enough to dip my toe in, and, if not, at least I would get a good glass of wine out of the deal! My Mom, by the way, is a HUGE crafter, so we knew she was down!
We ended up going with Some Good Customs, a Black-owned craft shop out of Atlanta, GA specializing in DIY workshops and custom and ready-to-ship home decor and gifts. We decided on the Beginner-level Epoxy Resin Confetti Tray workshop.

So, Are Virtual Craft Classes Worth It?
Before I get into the class itself, I want to say that Leah is super sweet and incredibly easy to work with. We got our workshop scheduled and ordered our supplies through her; she ships everything you need for your class straight to your door, no muss no fuss. When we needed to postpone because one of my pieces came late, (we didn’t account for USPS which, as you know, is going a bit nuts these days) she was super cool and accommodating.
So. The crafting! Honestly, working with epoxy and resin was a lot easier than I expected it to be! Leah walked us through the process step by step and she was careful to note any potential pitfalls or mistakes we needed to look out for.
We met through the Zoom app, which I’m sure everyone is familiar with by now. If you’re not, no worries! There’s a free version and it’s super easy to use. I’m not that big of a people person, and we’ve already mentioned that I don’t craft, so I was unsure of what to expect. Turns out we had a blast sipping wine, chatting, and creating our masterpieces. Leah’s a jewel and her sweet, down-to-earth personality made for a fun and seamless experience.
We joked about turning “the newbie” into a crafter by the end of the workshop, and I have to confess, I’ve seen the light ya’ll! I wouldn’t say I’ve reached “Crazy Crafter” status, but working with my tray was fun and incredibly relaxing. I already ordered a few more trays to work with and I’m even (gasp!) considering staining or painting the rest of my original tray. Luckily, there were plenty of supplies left over from our workshop, so I’m all set for next time!

I too have become more crafty since staying at home and have taken some classes and I have found that it’s just as easy in a virtual classroom unless I need the one on one help, but all the instructors have been very helpful!

I’m like you. I like other peoples handmade goods but when I start crafting I really enjoy it.

I was wondering about virtual art classes for my kids and whether they would be worth the cost. It’s nice to see how this worked out for you and to see what’s possible online. We’ve tried to add more art and creativity into our days and are looking for ideas.

The kids and I started doing some online art classes at the beginning of covid, and I agree…they were super fun!

Thank you, Britney! This is beautifully written, you’re going to make me have a tear. 🙂
I’m so glad you enjoyed and thought it was worth it! I so enjoyed having you all and excited that you have more trays on the way (yayyyy!!!). I can’t wait to see what else you do with your tray! We’ll be sure to keep you on the email list for when we add new classes!
Tell Mama I’ll be waiting on her craft classes so I can level up! Lol 🙂

I have been wondering what it would be like to take a craft class on Zoom, so this was timely. Actually I spend a lot of time on my blog but enjoyed sewing our masks and could certainly use another fabric project.
Bonnie
I’m not a crafty person but would take an online craft session.

I think an virtual art class looks really fun! And, like you say, you can enjoy a glass of wine while creating your masterpiece. I took a dog training class online recently, and it actually went very well!

I’ve always been passionate about arts and crafts, so I think I’d totally dig this. But, I’ve been wondering if my kids would like something like this. They do Art for Kids Hub YouTubes with school and love that. Recently I’ve seen some art classes pop up in the area over Zoom.
Alice
That sounds like fun!!! I used to be crafty but I haven’t done it in years.
Leeandra
I love this! This sounds like it went well!

What a cool craft! I’ve also done my version of getting more crafty by chalk painting cabinets and redecorating during this quarantine!
Danielle Ardizzone
This looks like so much fun! I might enjoy it more than in-person classes (no judgment from other artists, lol).

My kids and I have tried some virtual things this summer that we wouldn’t normally have tried and we have always been pleasantly surprised.
Cindy Mailhot
I love virtual art classes when they are done well and you can ask questions in the moment.
Marianne
I am guessing my daughter would love to take a virtual craft class. Since the kids are not going back in September to school, virtual classes will be the new norm anyway!
Amy
It’s a cute idea to do classes online. My mom makes these as one of her products for her business. They are such beautiful trays!
Britney
Nice! They’re so much fun to work with!
Cindy Moore
What a great way to do crafts! I bet your mom loved it all. And the tray is so cute.
Britney
Thank you so much, she had so much fun! We’re already trying to schedule the next one(:
