14 Black Owned Vegan Nail Polish Brands For The Perfect Home Manicure

Share The Love

So, this week’s post on Black owned Vegan nail polish brands was slightly selfish. Within the last year or so, I’ve started doing my nails at home and it has become one of my favorite forms of self-care. I’ve also grown quite the nail polish collection, but that’s another story!

What Does Vegan Polish (And Other Terms) Mean?

Before we jump in, let’s chat really quickly about some of the terms you may read below: “10-FREE, 5-FREE, Vegan, Cruelty-Free”. You’re probably already familiar with them, but in case you’re not, here’s a quick summary.

10-FREE & 5-FREE: These terms mean the nail polish is made without ten (or five) of the most common chemicals you typically find in older polish brands. I have also seen 7-FREE in this category. If you’re curious, most brands will include a full list somewhere on their website of which chemicals they exclude from their formula.

Vegan: You probably know this one already! Vegan just means that none of the ingredients or pigments used in their formula come from animals.

Cruelty-Free: This means the polish itself has not been tested on animals. You may also see “Leaping Bunny Certified”. The Black owned nail polish brands on this list that display this logo have met a strict set of criteria when it comes to their production, ingredients list, etc. You can learn more about the Leaping Bunny standard here.

Tips To Get Your Home Mani To Last

Now that you’ve picked your new favorite color (or two or three, I’m not judging!) from one of the awesome Black owned Vegan nail polish brands above, you want it to last, right? Here are my best, quick tips for extending the life of your nail polish:

Tip #1: Apply a base coat & topcoat

Tip #2: Use two layers of topcoat & reapply every few days

Tip #3: Apply 2-3 coats of polish in thin, even layers and allow ample drying time between each coat (I usually wait five minutes)

Tip #4: Avoid “flooding the cuticle“. If you do, use a nail brush to remove access polish

Tip #5: Wear rubber gloves while cleaning or washing dishes

Tip #6: Avoid using your nails as a tool to open containers or packages
