Can Plus Size Women Wear Horizontal Stripes?

I think it’s time to let go of the (very false!) idea that plus size ladies can’t wear stripes! YES, we can. I’ve read that both thick and thin stripes can make you appear wider, but I’ve worn and loved both.

My advice? If you’re feeling unsure, head in store to try on a print (stripes or otherwise). Definitely use the mirrors to your advantage, but ALSO take pictures of yourself in your striped shirt. Go with what makes you look and feel your best.

Are Stripes Still In Style For 2025?

A resounding YES to this question. Honestly, stripes are a timeless pattern that I don’t see going out of style any time soon. You see them a lot in Spring, but I personally will rock stripes all year round, especially in neutral colors.

Long story short, how you style your striped shirt may change from season to season, but the shirt itself will always be stylish.

Under A Blazer (Go for Linen for Spring!)

I just love a good blazer, and I especially love a classic stripe underneath! This linen blend blazer is one of my favorites for transitional weather where it’s not super-hot, but also not too cold.

With A Spring Cardigan

This kind of counts as mixing prints since the cardigan is a different pattern, but I think it works since they’re both neutrals.

This particular “coatigan” is a holdover from my Winter wardrobe. You can also try a lightweight Spring cardigan in a sunny yellow, bright green, or sweet pink for a pop of color.

Pair With a Denim Button Down

If you’re not into classic button downs but need more layering pieces, try a denim button down instead of classic cotton.

This one feels casual and less fussy than a cotton button down, plus it works as a layer AND on its own. Love a versatile, double-duty piece, especially on a tight budget!

With Intentional Accessories

As it turns out, striped shirts work on their own as well, especially right now when simple outfits are seriously on-trend.

HINT: If you’re wearing a simple outfit like this, try to be intentional about your footwear and accessories. If done correctly, they’ll take your outfit from simple to simple AND chic.

With a Bold, Bright Pattern

Okay, this one might be a little controversial. But playing with bolder patterns is a great way to liven up a classic striped print.

PRO Tip: Keep either the top or the bottom minimal and neutral so your look doesn’t feel overwhelming.

Paired With More Stripes

Another tricky outfit that somehow works. Again, I kept the stripes on top minimalist and neutral. And, although the pants are vertical stripes, they’re the same colorway as the bodysuit, which makes this outfit easier on the eyes.

My favorite way to wear this tee! Layering a long or short-sleeved striped shirt over your Summer tank dresses is a great way to get extra mileage out of them throughout the year.
